A gala charity auction was held at Christie’s in 2003; “Dame Shirley Bassey: 50 Years of Glittering Gowns” raised £250,000 for the Dame Shirley Bassey Scholarship at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the Noah's Ark Appeal.
Until recently, Wales was the only country in Europe that did not have a dedicated children’s hospital. The Noah’s Ark Appeal was set up in May 2000 to raise the money needed to build, equip and support the first dedicated children’s hospital for Wales Bassey has also been involved with Nelson Mandela's 46664 campaign to help raise Global awareness of AIDS/HIV. 46664 aims to highlight the emergency of AIDS/HIV through unique live events and music related initiatives.
