That stamp collection you may have just inherited could be worth a mint! Get searching through the old boxes in the attic! An envelope with Penny Black stamps on it and some unusual franking has just been valued by Stanley Gibbons in London at £300,000!
This item is one of the jewels in the crown of the Mayflower Collection. This is a superb cover from Limerick to Hamburgh via Dublin and Hull, with the 8d postage rate prepaid by two blocks of four Penny Blacks from the first ever printing plate. Each block is neatly tied by red Maltese Crosses. This item has huge rarity value as it is the only known such franking with the 1d black. Stamps may sound a bit staid and boring, but take another look at any stamps or collections you may have inherited, as they have proved to be consistently good investments over the last 20 years.
